The real problem with this official remake of The Italian Job is that instead of reproducing a perfectly nuanced screenplay as it is, it tries to act too smart, with excessive elements and needless tampering, in the process making a complete fool of itself. Why can't you stick to the plan, Bollywood? All this time we witness our filmmakers rip-off Hollywood scene-by-scene but the minute they acquire rights, they are hit by an army of brainwaves or an insuppressible need to improvise (read flounder).

‘Players’ is a razor-sharp flick with scintillating cinematography by Ravi Yadav that takes you through breathtaking locales of Amsterdam, Siberia and New Zealand, complete with James Bond style adrenaline rushing action sequences – high speed car chases, lot of aerial scenes, heist on the train and et all.
Yet, despite all the gloss, the film lacks emotions. Abhishek appears to play ‘Dhoom’ inspector with corny dialogues and weak characterisation. Neil delivers a good performance. Omi Vaidya is frustrating sometimes with his ‘3 Idiots’ accent. Sonam and Bipasha look glamorous and Bobby is terribly wasted. In terms of background score, for the first time in Abbas Mustan film, the music appears weak.

A thriller like Players could have worked only if it were made as a fast-paced and stylish film. While this film is stylish, it is anything but fast-moving and, therefore, gives the audience so much time to think that it fails and falls flat on its face
Screenplay writers Rohit Jugraj and Sudip Sharma have written a script of absolute convenience, which the intelligent audience of today will find hard to digest. At least one team member oscillates between the betrayer and the betrayed and why s/he does so is not clear.

Players is technologically well-advanced than original Hollywood flick although, the original is rich in terms of content. But, the flipside is the length of the film and performances which leave an intelligent direction in dilemma. The lack of energy in the actors, barring Bipasha and Neil leaves people yawning most of the times.
